Career Ladder: Entry Level Jobs

There are dozens of different healthcare jobs and you can start in many places! If you are just out of high school or have a high school education, you probably want to check out the following positions. Some are part-time or per diem - all provide a foot in the door and a way to learn more about healthcare careers!

Food Services: Prepares food for cafeteria and for patients, operates cash register, follows safe food handling procedures and works with a team to prepare food.

Environmental Services: Maintains clean hospital environment, including washing floors and keeping all areas of the hospital clean. Follows sanitary procedures and works with a team.

Medical Records Clerk: Files patient files, retrieves files for doctors and other medical personnel, responsible for accurate organization of patient files.

Animal Lab Technician: Helps to keep animal research labs and subjects clean.

Entry Clerical: Helps with clerical work in a variety of departments. Usually requires some skill training beyond college or some college education.

Transport: Helps to transport patients and sometimes equipment to various appointments and destinations.
